1 NOTE Refn: He had polio as a child leaving right leg smaller. Mother died when he was 9 years old. Went to live with brother, Georgein Youk, Neb. where he met and married Mary Kaspari. She died of TB in 1930. He married Alma Wilson who died of cancer in 1948. Honest, bright, hard working, generous, but tempermental.

Census 1915, Atlantic, Iowa. Cass Co. John H. Dimig, 14 yrs old, 8th grade. Military: 12 Sep 1918, Cass County, Iowa. He registered for the draft during World War I.

He had polio as a child leaving right leg smaller. Mother died when he was 9 years old. He went to live with brother, George in York, Neb. as a young adult where he met and married Mary Kaspari. She died of TB in 1930. He subsequently married Alma Wilson who died of cancer in 1948. He farmed most of his life on the Judd farm SW of Wiota, IA. John was honest, bright, hard working, generous. He experienced significant hardships with handicaps from polio, and the early deaths of two wives leaving him with young children to raise.

Obituary: Atlantic News Telegraph, September 1, 1978. John Dimig, Longtime Area Farmer, Dies. John H. Dimig, 78, a resident of the Atlantic Care Center, died at 11 AM, Thursday at Cass Co. Memorial Hospital. The son of John and Mary Schubert Dimig, he was born August 5, 1900, on his parents farm southwest of Atlantic. He was married to May Kaspari who died in 1930, and later married Alma Wilson who died in 1948. He farmed most of his life and was a member of SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church. Surviving are 5 daughters, Darlene Lauritsen of Kennard, Neb., Margarite Leonard of Omaha, Marian Pelzer of Greeley, Colorado, Carol Stockman of Kirkland, Wash., and Joan Franco of Citrus Heights, Cal. and a son, John of Woodbine, Md; 14 grandchildren; and a sister, Ruby E. Hansen of Atlantic. He was preceded in death by his parents; his two wives, May and Alma, four brothers, Fred, George, Edward, and Henry; three sisters, Dora Bopp, Mary and Gertrude Dimig, and four grandchildren. Funeral Mass will be held at 10 AM Monday at SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church, with Father Edward Kelly celebrant, Internment will be in the Atlantic Catholic Cemetery. Rosary will be said at the Roland Funeral Homeat 7:30 PM Sunday.
