Born in DeKalb County, IL. Moved to England with family when 5 years old. Came back to the US when about 31 years old. He arrived on 30 Sept. 1906 on the ship Umbria. He sailed from Liverpool, England. Spent 6 weeks on Ellis Island while trying to prove US citizenship. Ethnicity shows Gr. Brit. English American per the Ellis Island web site. On the CA death index his mothers maiden name is listed as House.

The cemetary in San Pedro where William is buried was turned into a park. All of the headstones were taken and put into a canyon in the hills east of LA. There is a plack at the cemetary with all of the names of the people there. The park is accross the street from the Banning House which is a historic monument. This does not appear to be true. The Wilmington Cemetery seems to be intack as it was originally.

Hello,

I am trying to locate birth information for William Paddison b. 8 Nov 1875 in DeKalb County, IL.

His parents, William and Mary (House) Paddison, came to DeKalb County, IL in 1870 with one year old daughter, Clara, from Wales. William Jr. was born 5 years later. The family moved back to England in 1880. I believe William Paddison Sr. was a merchant. He owned and ran a store in London upon his return to England.

William Jr. came back to the USA in 1906 at the age of 31 on the ship Umbria. He spent 6 weeks at Ellis Island, trying to prove US citizenship. He did eventually prove US birth but not sure how. Other than the period of 1870 to 1880, I don’t know of any other connection to DeKalb County.

Any information on the birth of my Grand Father, William Paddison b. 8 Nov 1875 would be appreciated. I would be happy pay for any copies and/or donate to the Joiner History Room for your time.

Thank you,

Roger Horstman

Unfortunately we do not have anything on your grandfather William Paddison. DeKalb County did not begin to register births until January, 1878.

I did find a mention of William Sr. It is taken from the Voters and Taxpayers of DeKalb County, 1878: Paddison, W. H. Sec. 4; P. O. Malta; rents farm of John Bowley; no politics; England. Sec. 4 refers to the plat map. Malta is a small community in DeKalb County. No politics means that he probably did not declare himself as a Democrat or Republican.
