Notes

1 NOTE Settled in either Cedar or Scott County, IA. Later moved to Garfield Township, Ida County, IA

The 1910 census shows a residence of Battle Creek, Iowa and occupation of Live Stock Buyer. Lived in Chicago in 1920.

The following is from a post on RootsWeb asking for information on Edward Horstman from Battle Creek, IA in the late 1800’s.

Looking for info on this family. Edward Horstman married Eliese Harder in 1895. I don’t believe there was any issue of this marriage. Eliese may have died before 1930 and Edward remarried to Mrs. Edith M. Barry. They are in the 1930 census for Sioux City, Ia. I would like to find the death date for Eliese and where she is buried. Any info would be helpful.

Was Edward F. Horstman married to both women at the same time? This was rumor from distant cousin. The cousin had an old newspaper clipping but it was not seen. The person that wrote this was Mrs. Woodrow A. J. Horstman in Big Rock, Iowa. Hand written to Len Horstmann in the 1970’s (she spelled the name with two n’s) Woody Horstmann (her husband) confirmed this in Apr. 2004. He said that Eliese Harder was committed to an asylum. He also said that Edward went to Omaha to live. The mariage scandal took place in Chicago, IL.

Based on the letter from Mrs. Woodrow Horstman and the news clippings (see documents linked to Edward F. Horstman), there is no question that there was a scandal involving Edward F. Horstman in Chicago circa 1922.
