William H. Horstmnn and Christine Grampan settled on a farm 9 miles Southeast of Reinbeck, Iowa for one year, 1884 - 1885.
Of their 7 children, five children moved with them to Reinbeck. Henry Horstmann & Ida Horstmnn moved to Northwest Iowa where other Horstmann extended family members had settled. William H. Horstmann and Christine Grampan moved to a new farm 5 miles southwest of Reinbeck, Iowa, in 1884. They farmed here for eight years. They moved to a new farm called the Tippman farm 1 mile east of Reinbeck, Iowa in 1893. It later became the Dave Neil farm. They farmed here for 8 years until 1900. The land was in Black Hawk Township, Grundy County, Section 22, SE corner. They moved to town in Reinbeck, Iowa in 1900. Their house was on the present site of the Memorial Building.
When William H. Horstmann retired to town, he turned his farm over to his daughter, Dorothea Horstmann and her husband, John Ehrig. The transfer of his farm was most likely a rental transaction so he and his wife would have s source of income in their retirement.
William H. Horstmann died on February 2, 1905 at the age of 71 years. He is buried at the Reinbeck, Iowa Cemetery. In his obituary, he was described as a man of genial disposition, upright and honest and respected by all who know him.
