Death in the late 1950’s. Johann never married.

John was Lenorard Horstman’s grandmother’s brother.

1 NOTE Len Horstman Sr. and family used to go to down town LA and pickup Uncle John and bring him back to Norwalk for dinner. Then take him back. He lived alone in an appartment in down town LA. This was in the 1950’s. John was tall and slender. Also very quiet. He would talk to Leonard Sr. and always seemed to enjoy his visit and dinner. He left $2000 in his appartment for his berial. John is burried in Van Horn cemetary, Cedar Co. Iowa. Birth and death dates are not shown in cemetary records. We always called him Uncle John. The California death index lists a John Herman Eggert b. 3-14-1863 and died 10-27-1959 at the age of 96 in Los Angeles. It lists his mothers maiden name as Martzahn and his fathers last name as Eggert.

CLINTON HERALD-Nov. 31, 1959 DEATHS LOWDEN JOHN H. EGGERT John Herman Eggert, 96, of Los Angeles, California, a former Lowden resident was found dead in his apartment Oct, 27. The body will be returned to the Chapman funeral home in Clarence where friends may begin calling after 6 p.m. today. Services will be Sunday, Nov. 1, at 2 p.m. in the funeral home, with Rev. Edwin Otte, of Zion Evangelical and Reformed church of Lowden, officiating. Burial will be in Van Horne cemetery south of Lowden. Mr. Eggert was born March 14, 1863, in Germany, the son of Carl and Christine Martsen Eggert, and came to this country at the age of 10 with his parents. The family settled near Lowden before living for a short time at Ida Grove. About 45 years ago he moved to California where he has since made his home. He was never married. Surviving are a sister, Mrs. E. W. Conrad of Lowden, and nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were a sister, and 2 brothers.
