20 June 1951 - The Lowden News

Death claimed Wm. Penningroth, 72, a native of Lowden, this morning at 8 o’clock. He had been in failing health for some time, and last evening his condition became critical.

Funeral services will be held at 2 o’clock Friday afternoon in Zion Evangelical and Reformed church, with the Rev. N. S. Roberts in charge. Burial will be in the Lowden cemetery. The Chapman funeral home is in charge of all arrangements.

William Fred Penningroth, son of Carl and Louise Penningroth, nee Rix, was born in Lowden on Nov. 11, 1878. He was baptized in infancy and confirmed in Zion Evangelical and Reformed church, of which he was a member.

He was united in marriage to Augusta Eggert and three children were born to this union. They lived in the Lowden community their entire married life with the exception of a few years spent in Durant. The deceased at one time was associated with the late Harry Puck in the grocery business here. He also farmed south of Lowden. A few years ago Mr and Mrs Penningroth moved to Lowden.

He is survived by his widow; two sons, Grover of Clarence and Ralph of Lowden; and one daughter, Mrs Iola Johnson of West Liberty, and other relatives and friends.
