Iola Johnson WEST LIBERTY, Iowa – Iola A. Johnson, 90, of West Liberty died Thursday, Aug. 30, 2001, at the Simpson Memorial Home in West Liberty following an extended illness.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Sunday at the First Church United in West Liberty with Rev. Al Zimmerman officiating. Burial will be in the Lowden Cemetery, Lowden.

Friends may call Saturday from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Barker Funeral Home in West Liberty. Memorials may be made to the First Church United or the West Liberty Retirement Community.

Mrs. Johnson was born Feb. 1, 1911, near Lowden, the daughter of F.W. and Augusta Eggert Penningroth. She was a graduate of Lowden High School. She was united in marriage to D. Dale Johnson in 1931 at Rock Island, Ill.

They had lived in Durant for several years, moving to West Liberty in 1941. The couple had owned and operated Johnson Electric in West Liberty for several years, and later she was employed with Owens Brush Co. in Iowa City until her retirement. In 1995 she moved to Heath Manor and then to the Simpson Memorial Home in 2000.

She was a member of the First Church United in West Liberty, where she was very active in many groups as well as Whitacre Circle and Bible Study. Also a member of P.E.O. Sisterhood, and a lifetime member of Order of Eastern Star.

She is survived by one daughter, Andrea L. Maher and her husband Duane of Eugene, Ore.; one son, Douglas Johnson of Naperville, Ill.; three grandchildren, Martin Maher of Lowell, Ore., Marshall Maher of Oak Ridge, Ore., and Dominique Johnson of Naperville, Ill.; two great grandchildren, Ryan and Lindsey Maher. Also surviving are a niece, Ramona Nelson, and a nephew, Richard Penningroth.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dale in 1981; two infant sons, Donald and Dale Jr.; her parents and a brother, Ralph.
