Grover H. Penningroth Clarence. Grover H. Penningroth, 99, of Clarence, Iowa, died Died Saturday, August 13, 2005 at Clarence Nursing Home in Clarence, Iowa. Grover Penningroth was born on June 13, 1906 to Fredrick “Bill” Penningroth and Augusta Eggert on a farm outside of Clarence Iowa.

Grover was baptized and confirmed in the Lowden United Church of Christ and graduated from Lowden High School in 1924. On June 6,1929 he married Beatrice Albert in the St. John’s United Church of Christ parsonage in Clarence. He was a past master of the Mount Hope Masonic Lodge #501 in Clarence. He owned and operated Penny’s Meat Market in Clarence from 1929 until his retirement in 1970. In 1993 Grover and Bea moved to the Methwick community in Cedar Rapids. They resided there until they moved to the Clarence Nursing Home in 2003. Penny as many of his friends knew him, loved to visit with his many friends, play golf and travel throughout the U.S. and Europe.

Grover is survived by his wife of 76 years, Beatrice nieces, Andrea (Duane) Maher of Oregon, Romana (Jim) Nelson of California and Barbara Ahrendsen of Clarence. Nephews, Douglas Johnson and friend Susan of Naperville, Illinois and Richard Penningroth and friend Judie of Cedar Rapids, and very special friends Kenneth, Marsha and Derrick Richmann of Clarence.

Grover was preceded in death by his parents, brother Ralph and (Alice) Penningroth, a sister Iola and (Dale) Johnson and a sister and brother in law Veneta and Harry Hanson. Two nephews, Charles Penningroth and Erwin Ahrendsen.

The funeral service will be held Wednesday August 17th, 2005 at 10:30 A.M. at St John’s United Church of Christ. Reverend David Mears will be officiating with burial to follow at St. John’s Church Cemetery. Visitation is one hour prior to service at the church. Arrangements with Chapman Funeral Home-Clarence.
