Came to the USA in 1871
Ferdinand was engaged in farming, operation of a Gerneral Store in Charter Oak, IA and at Big Rock, IA. Also a hardware store in Wheatland, Ia. He retired to Davenport, IA in 1908. He died at age 84 in 1937. He had a son, Grover C and 2 brother, August of Ida Grove, IA and Ed of Souix City, Ia. F.D.’s fathers name was August Frederick.
1 NOTE Ferdinand and Flora settled in Big Rock, Iowa Ferdinand’s grand son, Woodrow August John, said that Ferdinand traveled back to Germany to visit relatives several times. Once, he brought back a niece who lived with Ferdinand and his wife for some time. The Niece married a fellow by the name of Stoffan, a Stanford University basket ball star. Lived in a large house in Davenport.
