Horstman family group photo - Possibly taken at the passing of August Frederick Horstman in 1920? This photo seems to be taken circa 1928 based on the appearance of Carl Edgar Horstman (b 1915) in similar photos. I do not show any immediate family members passing in the 1928 time frame.

Notes

August Dietrich, my Grandfather, was in California visiting us when he had a stroke and died. I was with him in the yard when he just fell over. I was 6 at the time but still remember this. August Dietrich was sent back to Ida Grove on the train for burial and my Dad went on the train with the casket. I don’t remember my Grandmother, Mary Theresa, but I have fond memories of my Grandfather. He lived in Ida Grove at the time of his death. I remember several trips back to Ida Grove to visit him. He had a great strawberry patch in the back yard. He would take me out there before breakfast so we could have fresh strawberries on our cereal. I even remember his house. It was on the west side of the main street going into Ida Grove from the highway. The house had two front doors which I thought was really neat at 5 or 6 years old. I also remember walking down the street a half block, right in the middle of a fierce thunder storm, to watch the steam train come in to the station. There was still a passenger stop in Ida Grove at that time.

1 NOTE August Dietric Horstman was visiting his son, Leonard August and family, in California when he had a stroke and died. He lived in Ida Grove, Iowa at the time. His body was sent back to Ida Grove, IA. on the train accompanied by his Son Leonard for burial next to his wife.
