Joseph died around age 36, leaving his widow, Gertrude (Smith) with 11 children to raise: Vincent, Wilma, Lawrence, Loretta, Raymond, Marie, Alfred, Celestine, Robert, Paul, and Leo who died of pneumonia at age 2.
