I’m looking for the parents of John C Clemens b1828 in Ohio, married to Elizabeth Linville in 1856 in Indiana. I thought that Gasper Clemmons in Green County, Ohio was the likely father with Elizabeth Welch the mother. Or is there another Clemens the better choice? Thanks!
John C. Clemens died 9/24/1891 at Topeka State Hospital and is buried at THS Cemetery in Row 5 Grave 3. Background: The Topeka State Hospital operated as a hospital for the mentally ill between the years of 1879 and 1997. Prior to 1901 it was known as the Topeka Insane Asylum. The buildings and grounds still exist and are well preserved. A brief history of the hospital is located at http://cjonline.com/stories/011700/com_tshlegacy17.shtml. A history of the hospital published in 1918 is available at: http://skyways.lib.ks.us/genweb/archives/1918ks/v2/1102.html#110503. Most of the people buried in the cemetery at the hospital are buried in unmarked graves; however, a dozen or so headstones are still standing.
Also see www.findagrave.com for the Topeka State Hospital Cemetery to see a monument with a list of all those buried there.
