Notes

1 NOTE Bill died suddenly of a heart attack. He left behind a wife and 1 son. Also, he had one boy and one girl by two other relationships. His brother, Dennis, lived with him. Dennis was born with Down Syndrom. Bill Aaron owned and operated a tire and brake company in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. He also conducted hunting and fishing trips in the Northern US and Canada. Roger, Oh my goodness! It has been wonderful reading your email and looking at the pictures. I am so thankful you contacted me, as I had come to a pretty grinding halt on getting any family information.

Also, I wanted to correct the persons you described in the picture with the group. Next to Dennis is actually my Step-grandmother Sharron and in front of her is my Uncle Todd when he was young. My father was actually Bill’s illegitimate son with another woman, my late grandmother Lana Risenhoover, and was born just a few months before Todd himself. Oddly enough, my dad’s name is Bill, and we had a great relationship with my Papa Bill throughout my childhood.

I will definitely be in contact with you again, I’m emailing from my phone in Norman, Oklahoma since all this snow has my internet non-functional. Nothing more exciting than being snowed in for a week, with another storm expected to hit on Monday!

I appreciate your email! Please, keep in touch, I assure you I will once the storm is over with.

Thank you,

Kierston

Roger

Kierston,

I saw a post from you in Ancestry.com asking about your grandfather, Bill Aaron Jr, born 7 May 1946 in OK; died 18 Jan 2002 in Broken Arrow, OK and his mother, Cecilia Mary Horstman, born 14 Apr 1918; died Jul 1986 in Tulsa, OK.

Bill Aaron Jr. was my first cousin. His mother, Cecilia, was my dad’s sister. I have a old movie with Cecilia, Bill and Dennis along with other family members when everyone was in Battle Creek, Ia. one year. I transferred old 8mm film to digital a few years ago. No sound as it was taken in the early 60’s but interesting. I will have to edit the file for just the short section showing the family. I just looked at it and Its 360 megs as it is now. There are several great shots of Cecilia along with the rest of us.

Please take a look at my web site for a bit of information on the Horstman family. I have lots more info besides whats on the site but its hard to find the time to keep entering everything. Click on the “Family Tree” button on the left for descendants. Click on any text in blue for pictures and other info.

from Horstmanfamily.org

The first picture below, from left, Dennis Aaron, Carol Aaron, Bill Aaron Jr. Cecilia (Horstman) Aaron and Leonard A. Horstman Sr. Len Horstman, my dad, was Cecilia’s brother. My dad went to visit Bill and Carol in Broken Arrow a number of times. He and my mom drove back to the midwest almost every year to visit.

The second picture has printed text from me and the hand writing was Cecilia’s.

I have a number of other pictures of the Aaron family that I would be happy to send to you. Also, if there is anything you would like on the horstman family, just let me know. I have the Horstmann line traced to the 1600’s in Sarau, Germany. Most of the information has been verified from church records and other documentation.

Please sent me a note if you get chance. I would love to hear from you. I do still keep in touch with several cousins around the country. I saw that you communicated with Carol Bacon. She is a distant cousin related to the Diimig family. Cecilia’s mother’s maiden name was Diimig. Carol and I have been sharing information for years.

Take care,

Roger

Hi Kierston,

Thank you so much for the reply. As you can probably tell, I have a really fun time with our family history. I have been working on this for 12 or 14 years now. I typically spend 20 or 30 hours a week on research not to mention trips to the library and occasionally around the country.

Your information on the picture I sent has me a bit confused. I didn’t realize Bill had another child. You mentioned that his wife was Sharon? I attached a picture with written info from Cecilia showing Carol, Bill and Tracy. Who is Carol and Tracy? I thought Bill only had 3 children, 2 boys and one girl.

Don’t forget, I have quite a few old pictures, as you can probably see, and am happy to share them. My mom saved every picture ever taken and I inherited them. Suitcases and boxes full of 50 and 100 year old photos. I have had difficulty identifying some of them. Thanks to people like you and Carol Bacon, I have made a lot of progress.

Cousin Bill was a really generous person. I do remember him as being a very friendly guy. I didn’t really know him well as we lived in California and they were in Tulsa, Oklahoma from the time I can remember. Also, when we came to visit, Bill and my brother always hung around together as I was a year or two younger. I do have a nice story for you that was told to me by another first cousin of ours in Iowa. One of our cousins, married with several children, lived on a farm in Iowa and were having some tough times financially. One of the children was killed in a farming accident. Bill sent money to pay for the funeral. He made sure the donation was anonymous. I heard about this, I think, by accident. My dad always kept in close touch with Bill. As I mentioned, he always went down to Broken Arrow when he went back to visit in Iowa. I got updates from my dad on how Bill was doing but it was a long time ago and only verbal.

Stay warm,

Roger

The following is incorrect. The the text below about Carol Aaron. This picture is of Papa Bill and his first child, Tracy, who now lives in Colorado. I’m pretty sure that the (Carol) is actually in fact my Grandma Sharron. Tracy is the oldest, then my father Bill, and Todd (from the group photo) is the baby. I will definitely ask my dad if Papa Bill was with a Carol, but I’m nearly positive his only wife has been Sharron and she is the mother of Tracy and Todd.

The following is correct Okay Roger, just talked to my dad. Carol (Rodecker) Aaron was Papa Bill’s first with, with whom he had Tracy. Then he was with my grandma Lana, had my dad, and then married Sharron, Todd’s mother.
