In Memory: Wilbert J. Stroebele

Wilbert J. ‘Webb” Stroebele, 90, of Council Bluffs, died March 2 at Bethany Lutheran Nursing Home.

He was born January 12, 1913, in Oakland to Edward J. and Alma (Dau) Stroebele. He previously lived in rural Hancock, moving to Council Bluffs in 1962. He worked for the Farm Bureau Service in Hancock from 1962 to 1975 selling fertilizer products. He was also a farmer in Hancock. He was a member of Timothy Lutheran Church in Council Bluffs.

Mr. Stroebele and his wife, Bernadette (Langer), were married 68 years. He was preceded in death by his son, Gerald “Jerry” Stroebele, in 1996.

Survivors in addition to his wife include a daughter, Kathryn Stroebele, of Topeka, Kansas; a son, W. John Stroebele, and wife, Joan, of McClelland; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; three sisters, Elta Pontow and Louise Leu, both of Council Bluffs, and Esther Diimig of Omaha; one brother, Everett Stroebele, and wife, Ann, of Oakland.

Visitation with the family was held Wednesday evening at Cutler-O’Neill-Meyer-Woodring Funeral Home.

The funeral will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Timothy Lutheran Church with the Rev. Michael Petri officiating. A luncheon will be held immediately following the service at Timothy Lutheran Church. Graveside services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Oaklawn Cemetery in Oakland.

Memorials may be offered to Timothy Lutheran Church or Bethany Lutheran Home.
