Uncle Paul had been in the Nursing home in Odebolt IA for a few years. He passed away in his sleep last night (3⁄16). He was married to Celestine Diimig (Sally), who also resides in the Nursing Home in Odebolt. Visitation will be Friday night at C Huffman funeral parlor in Ida Grove and Mass Sat. morning at 10:30, St. Martin’s in Odebolt.

Paul Dinges, age 87, of Odebolt, Iowa, died Wednesday, March 16, 2011, at Odebolt Nursing & Rehab Center in Odebolt.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 10, 2011, at St. Martin’s Catholic Church in Odebolt, Iowa, under the direction of Christensen-Huffman Funeral Homes. The Reverend David Hemann will officiate, with burial to follow in St. Martin’s Catholic Cemetery, Odebolt. Military honors will be conducted by Roose Post No. 313 of the American Legion. Visitation with the family present will be held at St. Martin’s Catholic Church in Odebolt on Friday from 5-8 p.m., with a Scripture Service at 7:00 p.m.
Born March 17, 1923, in Odebolt, Iowa, Paul Alfred Dinges was the son of Romaine and Genevieve (Bengford) Dinges. He grew up and received his education in Odebolt, graduating from Odebolt High School. Paul farmed with his father for several years, then served with the Merchant Marines during World War II.
On November 19, 1946, Paul married Celestine Diimig at Sunnyvale, California. The couple made their home in Odebolt, where they raised their family of four children, Jeanette, Rosemary, Mark, and Sheila.
Paul worked for the State Highway Department for many years, retiring as foreman in 1983. He worked in other capacities over the years as well, including farming, hauling cattle, and other independent jobs.
Paul was a faithful member of St. Martin’s Catholic Church in Odebolt. He was a gifted sportsman, an avid golfer, and also enjoyed traveling and gardening.
Survivors include his wife, Celestine; four children, Jeanette Shortley of Portland, OR, Rosemary (Larry Armstrong) Dinges of Spokane, WA, Mark (Kelly) Dinges of Des Moines, and Sheila (Rick) Smith of Oak Park, IL; four grandchildren; a sister, Marcella Zehnle of St. Louis, MO; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Robert Dinges.
