Joseph Bernard Dimig (February 23, 1926 - July 30, 2012)

Joseph Bernard Dimig was born February 23, 1926, at the family farm home of his parents, Edward and Louise (Richter) Dimig, their 7th child. He resided on that farm all of his life, attending Grove #9 school and graduating from Atlantic High School in 1944. He joined his father in the purebred Duroc swine business in 1947 and continued expanding until retiring in 1995. He was very successful in the show ring and swine testing stations, showing at National Duroc shows and state fairs. Over the years he sold breeding stock to 33 states and 6 foreign countries. He held public auctions at the farm for 10 years.

Joe was a lifelong member of SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church, a member of Knights of Columbus since 1944; served on the Extension Council, parish church council, Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus, Elks, church usher, 4-H project leader, member of the Iowa Duroc Breeders Association; but most of all, a devoted husband and father. Joe enjoyed ballroom dancing, fishing, playing cards, and after retirement, he enjoyed gardening, having ?coffee? with the Farmer?s Kitchen group and was a longtime Hawkeye fan.

Joseph married Dorothy Skow September 6, 1949, at SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church. They worked together to make a successful business and were proud of their four children, their grandchildren and their accomplishments.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; his sons, Doug (Carol) of Atlantic, Iowa, and Tom, of Columbia, South Carolina; daughters, Linda (Bob) Zimmerman, of Lewis, Iowa, and Mary Jo (Dr. Steven) Manikowski, of Gotha, Florida; nine grandchildren, Scott Dimig, Julie (Robby) Anderson, Amy (Jeremy) Lindley, Neal (Nichole) Dimig, Jeri (Chris) Davis, Patrick Dimig, Brandon Buffington, Jaselle and Joshua Manikowski; five great-grandchildren, Cole and Koy Anderson, Kirstin, Bailey and Carter Lindley; sister-in-law, Thelma Hammond; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Preceding Joseph in death were his son, Kent Michael in infancy; his parents; brothers, Leo, Clarence and Paul; sisters, Mildred in infancy, Hazel Saville-Oehler and Rose Doane and spouses; parents-in-law; and brother-in-law, John Hammond. There will be a Scriptural Wake Service at 6:00 p.m. with visitation to follow from 6:30 ? 8:00 p.m. on Friday, August 3, 2012, at Hockenberry Family Care in Atlantic.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, August 4, 2012, at Saints Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Atlantic with burial to follow in Saints Peter & Paul Catholic Cemetery.
