Notes

in Reinbeck, IA. (still living in 1922)

Not sure if the following is for this John Horstmann. Need more research.

I believe William Horstmann was the son of John and Wilhelmina Horstmann who were born in Germany and migrated to the USA in 1853. He bas born abt 1826 and she in 1823. Don’t know when they arrived in Iowa or the extent of their family. She must have died before John. John was living alone, next to his son in Louden in 1920. The 1910 census indicates that he was “Head of household” which would indicate that his wife was probably with him at that time. I wasn’t able to view their census record.

William, as you know, was a harness maker in Louden. He was born in Iowa 12/02/1862. He died in Boise, ID 07/06/1945 at the age of 83. Lizzie was about 11 years younger being born in 1874. The 1920 census lists their children at school in Louden:

Ella 18 daughter Ruth 16 daughter John 14 son Louise 12 daughter

I don’t know the reason for moving to Boise, but one or more of their children must have been living there.

1880 Census lists Mary - Dau 22, Arnold Westfall - SSon 17 and Julia - Dau 10 all in Lowden. John at 54 and is shown as harness maker. This would make John born in 1826.
