REMSEN, Iowa - Elizabeth C. Schimmer, 90, of Remsen, formerly of Storm Lake and Galva, Iowa, died Thursday, Nov. 9, 2000, at Happy Siesta Health Care Center in Remsen.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Remsen, with the Rev. Thomas J. Hart officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Danbury, Iowa. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with a rosary at 3 p.m. and a vigil prayer service at 7:30 p.m., at Fisch Funeral Home in Remsen.
Mrs. Schimmer was born July 2, 1910, in Mapleton, Iowa, the daughter of Theodore and Ottilia (Schoennerr) Schleimer. She was raised and educated in the Mapleton area.
She married Leo Schimmer on Feb. 18, 1936, in Mapleton. The couple farmed in the Danbury and Anthon, Iowa area. In 1949, they moved to a farm near Galva. Her husband died Nov. 7, 1974. She continued to live on the farm until 1976, when she moved to Storm Lake. She entered Happy Siesta Health Care Center in March 1995.
She was a former member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and St. Mary’s Guild in Storm Lake.
Survivors include two daughters, Norma Schemmel of Remsen and Shirley and her husband, Dewyne Stucynski of Storm Lake; two sons, Elvin and his wife, Jan of Galva and Leo of Storm Lake; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a son-in-law, Allen B. Johnson of Sioux City; a daughter-in-law, Janet Schimmer of Storm Lake; and a sister, Mary Mohrhauser of Cresco, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by a son, Paul; a daughter, Corrine Johnson; a granddaughter, Melissa Johnson; a son-in-law, Robert Schemmel; and a daughter-in-law, Wilma Schimmer.
