Mrs. Elfrieda Dietrich Horstmann, 78, passed away at 6:45 a.m. Friday, June 19 [1959]. at a hospital at Mt. Pleasant after a lingering illness.
She was born in Durant Jan. 12, 1881, the daughter of Anna and John Wiebner [Wiebener]. She attended the Durant schools, and was married to Ernst Diedrich on March 6, 1901, and moved to Lost Nation in 1909. The family moved to Wheatland in 1917, where they farmed for a number of years. Mr. Diedrich died June 25, 1929, and on Sept. 27, 1933, she was married to Gus Horstmann, who preceded her in death on Oct. 9, 1944.
Mrs. Horstmann was a member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ and of the Ladies Aid; also a member of the Wheatland Legion Auxiliary, the Eastern Star, and Past Matrons Club.
She is survived by a son, Robert Diedrich of Davenport; a daughter, Mrs. Charles (Ona) Patterson; two stepsons, Walter Horstmann of Toronto and Leonard Horstmann of Calamus; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Louis Wulf of Lost Nation; a sister, Mrs. Adele Stutzer of Davenport; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Others preceding her in death were two brothers, a sister, and a stepson.
Funeral services were held on Monday at 1:30 p.m. at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, with Rev. Harold Koenig officiating. Burial was made in the Durant cemetery.
Deane Boom sang with Miss Wilma Riedesel at the pipe organ.
Pallbearers were Emil Endorf, Charles Cramer, ward Bright, Lester Riedesel, Ludwig Kiahn, and Alfred Rowold.
