The 1900 census for San Luis Obispo, CA, shows August ? Horstman (brother) b. 1844 age 56 living with the family of William and Amelia Horstman. If this was August Frederick Horstman, his date of birth should be 28 Jan 1831, not 1844? How could the dates be off this far? Amelia did not have a brother named August. Could the dates be wrong? Could he have been visiting his brother in 1900? August Frederick’s wife, Christina, died in 1894 and he remarried Anna Katharine in 1898. Anna died in 1913. August Frederick died in 1920.
I read a news article from the late 1800’s that said August Frederick Horstman went to visit his brother in California. I didn’t realize this was a relation at the time, if it is.
